At the Paris agreement on climate change held to bring all nations into a common cause to undertake ambitious efforts to combat climate change and adapt to its effects, President Maithripala Sirisena pledge to extend the forest cover of Sri Lanka from 29% to 32%.
Committed to accomplish the task, the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment together with forest department initiated the National Program for reforestation. This program is designed to encourage private sector to engage in reforestation process as a part of their CSR.
Up on the request of the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment, Manusath Derana also joined the program by undertaking to plant trees in 20 hectares of deforested land. On the date of 12th October 2019, His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena planted the first sapling at the deforested areas undertaken by Manusath Derana at the Galoya Forest reserve. The Bank of Ceylon also commenced 100 hectares of forestry on that day.
Manusath Derana and the ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment invite Eco-friendly organizations and individuals who value the nature, to join this national program.
