Manusath Derana “WORLD KIDNEY DAY” Commemorations.
Kidneys is a vital organ performing many crucial functions affecting the entire human body. Several other vital organs depend on the kidneys for their proper functioning. Kidneys help to build bones, produce hormones, regulate water, remove wastes and balance our body’s chemicals. We do not even notice the existence of these two tiny but extremely important organs in the shape of kidney beans until they begin to dysfunction. If we accidentally burn our fingers from fire we immediately draw back our fingers and take precautions in advanced to avoid such accidents. Yet, we never realize the damages cause to the kidneys, and fail to take precautionary measures in advance. This is mainly due to the absence of any pain, lack of self-control and awareness and insufficiency of an adequate social health protection system. Instead of protecting, we slowly kill our kidneys by neglecting to care of them. This is the result of failing to consume adequate healthy substances and instead consuming huge quantities of unhealthy and unsafe substances.
Manusath Derana is genuinely concerned about the spread of the Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in Sri Lanka. Therefore, more than thirty four medical camps were conducted in CKD prone districts to identify people who were already affected and others about to contract CKD.
World Kidney Day 2018 provided a unique opportunity for us to promote awareness of CKD and how to protect ourselves from the deadly disease.
