Today, the St. Joseph’s Girl Guides planted trees along the road at the Alapalawala Nainankada Forest Reserve as part of the Manusath Derana Nature Force’s “10 Million Trees program.” This program was run concurrently with the Girl Guides’ 12th “Adherence to Nature” All Island Exploration competition, which is held annually for more than 1000 girl guides nationwide and is hosted by St. Joseph’s Girls College Kegalle. Manusath Derana Nature Force expects to raise youth awareness and encourage their active participation in forest protection and environmental conservation efforts through similar programs. The Forest Conservation Department’s Kegalle Divisional office took part in the event.
